Looking back at bamboo storage for giant pandas

How Dawsongroup | tcs supported a zoo in Germany with temperature-controlled storage for fresh bamboo.

Some temperature-controlled storage applications are exactly what you would expect.

Others are a little more unexpected.

As part of our Unexpected Applications series, we’re looking back at one of the more unusual projects supported by Dawsongroup | tcs, helping a zoo in Germany keep bamboo fresh for giant pandas.

Bamboo can spoil quickly if it’s not stored in the right conditions. For pandas, freshness is especially important, as dry stalks can be rejected. The bamboo needs to remain cool, fresh and moist until it is ready to be used.

To support this requirement, Dawsongroup | tcs supplied a Superbox temperature-controlled storage solution, helping keep the bamboo at a consistent temperature of around 6-8°C.

The project also came with a practical challenge. Space on site was limited, which meant positioning the unit required careful planning and coordination from the team.

The result was a practical solution that helped keep the bamboo fresher for longer and supported the zoo’s daily feeding requirements.

A brilliant reminder that temperature-controlled storage isn’t always about the obvious products or sectors. From everyday essentials to highly specialist requirements, the right controlled environment can make all the difference.

In this case, that meant bamboo for pandas.
